Hey readers . We traveled to the Christmas tree farm today.
It was a whopping 25 degrees! But, the sun was shining and this activity is a tradition for us, as it is for many.
We arrived at the tree farm where Thomas the Train greeted us.
We loaded the train and rang the bell for our bumpy ride to begin.
A heated shed awaited us at our destination with a cozy open fire.
The girls nibbled on a few roasted marshmallows before we ventured out to find that
perfect tree.
And perfect is definitely in the eye of the beholder.
The girls will either pick out a tree that is 12′ tall or one that is brown and sparse.
I love hearing what they notice about a tree…
…and the reason why they feel it is perfect.
But, ultimately the tree of choice is voted on by all.
{such a process}
The tree we brought home this year is so full….
..and bit round in the middle.
Actually, we barely got it through the front door.
We usually opt for a Frasier Fir,
but we brought home a White Spruce this go around.
It smells heavenly.
I can’t wait to show it to you in a few weeks
during the home tour.
Meanwhile while temps are dropping outdoors,
I have a fun activity you can do with your kiddos.
These tree blocks remind me of our adventures
during the Christmas tree hunt.
And this project allows kids to create their perfect tree to display.
Supplies you will need:
Scrap blocks of wood
Stencil
Chalk paint
Glue
Glass glitter
The glass glitter from Michael’s is a budget-friendly alternative to the pricier German glass glitter. I was drawn to the vintage colors of this glitter.
Start the project by painting the blocks.
I used ASCP in Pure White.
I lightly distressed and sanded the blocks smooth.
Using the stencil,
trace the pattern of the tree.
Take your Elmer’s glue and apply over the traced pattern.
Completely cover the glued block with glass glitter.
Shake off excess and let dry.
These were so simple for the kiddos to make.
I would suggest kids 6 and up for this project.
My girls needed a bit of help with the tracing of the pattern,
but loved the painting and bedazzling!
A perfect little ribbon tree block to personalize their rooms.
Do you cut your own tree? Leave me a comment on your tradition.
